On the core route from Terminal Bcg1 Buses Vule to the railway station in Santiago, Higer FENCER electric buses operate daily. Chen Feng, a Chinese resident service engineer based in Chile, is responsible for long-term vehicle maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. During routine onboard inspections, he often opens his laptop diagnostic tool to read real-time operational data covering battery status, powertrain parameters, and driving conditions, accumulating first-hand data for continuous vehicle iteration and optimization.
This ordinary work scene has repeatedly sparked curiosity among local passengers. On one occasion, a local commuter proactively asked about the bus's origin. Upon learning that it was made in China and that similar Chinese-built buses had become quite common on local streets, he was astonished: "Don't vehicle inspection and performance optimization require manual troubleshooting inside a workshop? Can Chinese buses really complete full-vehicle testing and data optimization with just a small black box?"
Chen Feng explained that modern Chinese new energy buses are equipped with intelligent systems that synchronize full-vehicle operational data in real time. Most performance inspections and optimization tasks can be completed online, eliminating the reliance on traditional workshop-based manual inspections.
From Chen Feng's frontline perspective, the energy transition in Chile's public transport sector is clearly visible. "Higer's Chilean fleet has long completed its energy transition. Early deliveries were predominantly diesel-powered. Since 2019, all newly commissioned operating models in the local market have been switched to pure electric buses," he noted. New energy models have fully replaced traditional fuel vehicles and become the mainstay of public transport in Santiago.
Adapting to local road conditions and climate is the core foundation of Higer's deep roots in the Chilean market. In 2005, 20 Suzhou Higer buses officially landed in Chile, kicking off passenger transport cooperation between the two sides. Chile's terrain is complex—the Andes Mountains run throughout the country, with numerous steep mountain slopes and undulating road conditions, while coastal areas frequently experience salt-spray weather, imposing extremely high requirements on vehicle structural strength, corrosion resistance, and road-condition adaptability.

In response to these localization challenges, Suzhou Higer targeted adjustments to its vehicle production processes—reinforcing overall structural stability, upgrading anti-corrosion body materials, and adapting to the complex local operating environment. According to Liu Xin, Head of Overseas Customer Service at Suzhou Higer, the company has built two spare parts central warehouses in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, enabling nearby parts reserves and rapid replenishment, thereby shortening vehicle repair waiting cycles. In terms of staffing, the team has formed a localized workforce of nearly ten employees, while permanently stationing 3 to 5 Chinese engineers on-site. Through hands-on teaching and on-site practical training, they cultivate local maintenance technical talent, achieving localized and normalized vehicle operation and maintenance, and guaranteeing the stable and regular operation of Higer buses across the city.
A Trust Bill Calculated from Fuel Prices
Higer's achievements in the Latin American market are the long-term result of two decades of continuous deep cultivation, with technology and service landing layer by layer. In April 2026, fuel prices in the Philippines rose sharply, and the operating costs of local fuel-powered passenger vehicles surged. A person in charge of a passenger transport enterprise did the math: a single full tank of fuel for a local traditional fuel vehicle cost as high as 53,272 pesos, and the high fuel consumption cost pushed long-distance passenger routes to the brink of loss. In contrast, a pure electric bus could save nearly 2,284 pesos per 100 kilometers compared to a fuel bus, saving about 11,876 pesos for a single day's operation of 520 kilometers.
"The Higer pure electric buses purchased in advance have become a key decision for our passenger transport enterprise to alleviate operational pressure," the person in charge introduced. Front-line operational data shows that Higer pure electric buses feature convenient charging, stable power output, and low driving noise, with good passenger feedback, effectively solving the operational problems of high cost and high wear-and-tear associated with fuel vehicles. Based on the dual improvement of actual operational revenue and user experience, the passenger transport enterprise clearly stated that it will continue to increase its purchase volume of Higer pure electric buses to gradually complete the overall new energy upgrade of its fleet.

Bus Company B in southern Luzon, Philippines, is one of the local enterprises in long-term cooperation with Suzhou Higer. According to Lu Shimin, Service Supervisor for Southeast Asia Zone 1 at Suzhou Higer, the company previously owned only 30 buses, mainly operating small regional passenger routes. To expand business scale and stabilize operational capabilities, the enterprise chose to reach a strategic cooperation with Higer Bus, introducing Higer's main models into core passenger routes. Relying on stable vehicle performance, Bus Company B gradually expanded its operational footprint and successfully secured the operating rights for several core transport arteries in southern Luzon, such as the Quezon City–Bicol route, developing from a regional small operator into a backbone passenger transport enterprise covering Manila and the Bicol region.
"Since 2025, out of trust in product quality, Bus Company B has once again expanded the scale of cooperation, purchasing over 20 Higer next-generation V-series high-end diesel buses in batches," Lu Shimin introduced. This model adopts a lightweight body paired with a high-efficiency engine. Compared with traditional passenger buses, its fuel economy performance is improved by more than 35%, directly reducing the enterprise's fuel procurement costs and full-lifecycle vehicle operation and maintenance expenditures. At the same time, the model features better exhaust emission indicators and lower carbon emissions, which highly aligns with the development requirements of local green transportation in the Philippines, helping Bus Company B achieve two-way optimization of operating costs and environmental standards.
